What Happened to Humanity?

Updated: Feb 8

I often wonder when we will finally rise above our need to divide.

The impulse to call out, put down, attack, and belittle: haven’t we outgrown these destructive ideas by now?

As a collective, when will we be mature enough to embrace the beauty of diversity. When will we become genuinely curious about the people in the village on the other side of the ridge?

Our fear of the unknown runs so deep that we find a false sense of comfort in isolation and name-calling. We build walls and call them "boundaries" just to justify our distance.

Perhaps that is why we sometimes fear the intellectual; because curiosity and acceptance always go hand in hand.

Humanity. What a word.

Here we are, at the top of the food chain the most "intelligent" beings we know... Living in what should be the best era in human history. And yet, we still behave like fearful cave-people. We resort to violence and the ostracization of anyone who isn’t part of our "tribe."

“Get them out of here.” “They don’t belong.” “You’re a monkey.” “You’re this.” “You’re that.”

If you take a step back and truly digest this behavior, you realize how devoid it is of love, growth, or acceptance. It is fueled by fear, hate, and regret.

So, as you read this, ask yourself: Are we capable of truly evolving? Or are we destined to be scared people, forever standing at the entrance of our cave, trying to keep everyone else out?

This is a message for the world, but it is a vital word for my country.

Love is acceptance.

Love helps.

Love isn’t calling someone a racist slur or dehumanizing them.

Love isn't taking children from their parents.

We must remember what true love looks like, and we must model it.

Find it. If we try, I know we can all rise above our own 'isms'.

Don’t allow yourself to be seduced by the darkness.

Be the light instead.

Later,

DD
