A West Coast Dream

Hey Folks!

I’m currently relaxing in Seattle, taking in the comfort of a condo provided by the venue where we’ll be performing tonight. As I sit here listening to Wayne Shorter’s “House of Jade,” I can’t help but daydream about cruising down a beautiful, tree-lined street on a Super73 C1X electric motorcycle. I’ve always had a passion for motorcycles, but since becoming a parent, safety has become a top priority. Still, I can’t resist the allure of the C1X, a prototype expected to be available in 2025. It’s a stunning piece of machinery, and I’m definitely going to get one when it’s released.

Speaking of travels, we’re on day four of our ten-day West Coast tour. Tomorrow, we head down to Los Angeles. The trip has been a blast so far. The West Coast is breathtaking, and the people here are incredibly friendly—reminding me a lot of the South and a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of NYC. This morning, I took a long walk and was pleasantly surprised by how everyone I passed greeted me with a “good morning.” It was a small gesture, but it set a positive tone for my day.

The music on this tour has been on another level. This band is phenomenal. We’re led by the talented Bria Skonberg, with Chris Pattishall on piano, Grayson Brockamp on bass, and myself on drums. The focus and love they all have for the music is palpable, leaping off the stage and capturing the imagination of our audiences. It’s a unique lifestyle, moving from place to place, sharing our energy and love with people. It’s dope, and I love it.

Despite all the fun, I do miss home. This summer has been incredibly busy, and I’m looking forward to some consistency in August. I have two main goals for the upcoming month:

1. Smoke a brisket and grill oysters.

2. Work out like a madman.

I’ve been diligent with my fitness and diet, and it’s paying off. Plus, there’s an exciting opportunity on the horizon that could be life-changing, though I can’t share the details just yet. Today should bring more clarity about my future. Let’s see how it goes. There are so many positive and exciting things happening right now.

Later,

DD
